Roydvale Colours
Roydvale's Pony Club colours are Brown and White. These have been set for years and are published at NZPCA level.
Youth Riders - Roydvale Competition Top / Rally Uniform
The Roydvale Youth top is available for purchase from the club and is expected to be worn at rallies by Youth riders. These look stunning when the riders are out an about competing and at rallies.
HorseMasters - Roydvale Polo Uniform
The Roydvale Black/White/Silver polo is used by Horsemasters at Rallies and for Competitions (eg. Harris Trophy etc).
This can also be purchased by non-riders, support crew, parents, coaches and youth riders. However, youth member riders are expected to wear the Brown/White uniform at rallies and elsewhere when representing Roydvale. However, its a great option to change into the Polo after riding to keep your top clean! We do not order these frequently, so get your name down and we will consolidate an order over a few months.
Roydvale Jackets - Black
These are an optional part of the uniform. Many members purchase their own to have, but we also have a supply for use for riders at formal team events when the weather is a bit meh to go over the Uniform tops (limited sizes). Names are not added to these given their use in formal prize givings etc.
All riders may ride in these at Rallies. We do not order these frequently, so get your name down and we will consolidate an order over a few months.
Roydvale Hoodies - Grey/Black
These are an optional part of the uniform, not for riding in at Rallies, but a great option to throw on after you have ridden. Available for riders and support crew - you are welcome to get your name added to these. We do not order these frequently, so get your name down and we will consolidate an order over a few months.
Roydvale Cap
These are an optional part of the unmounted uniform and a great way to show you're part of the Roydvale Team - available for parents, siblings and general fans also!
New Member vs. Full Member Uniform
NZPCA prescribes the uniforms for riders as part of their General Regulations (see page 14, clauses 16-18). You will also find something like this in your Pony Club Manual. When you first join Roydvale we understand it may be sometime before you can purchase uniform due to what we have available; but please wear something in line with these regulations in the mean time.
90% Safety, 10% Unity
The main purpose of the uniform standards is to provide riding members with what we see as safe riding attire. Second only to Safety, is Unity in wearing Roydvale Branch colours to show our pride in being part of the Roydvale Team! Pony Club uniform can be used at Rallies, Competitions where there are 'no jackets' allowed, Team Competitions, Jumping and many other events. It also keeps it simple and it means the riders aren't off to the saddlery every 5 mins to get the latest and greatest thing that their buddies have .....well at least at Pony Club!
Gear Check & Turnout Award
Every rally we have someone check your gear and give you a score for Turnout. This is not Turnout as in a show or ribbon day, but whether you are in correct uniform, your saddlery is clean and most importantly your pony has been cared for. So we want to see brushed manes/tails and well groomed ponies with oiled hooves; clean, safe and correctly fitted saddlery; riders in correct pony club attire per regulations and the NZPCA manual. Hair visible outside the helmet should be tied up and in a hairnet. If you aren't sure, check with your coach or person completing your gear check.
Turnout points are accumulated throughout the year at our rallies and the member with the most points at the end of the year is awarded the Turnout Trophy.
Key things to remember:
- RED Tagged Safety Standards Approved Helmet: Always on while mounted and for younger riders its a great option for safety on the ground too (and a great sunhat). If you have had a fall with any helmet impact you must check the inside and outside for any sign of damage, if there is ANY sign of damage or the fall was significant, the helmet needs to go into the bin and be replaced.
- RED Tagged Back Protector Safety Standards Approved: When jumping at rallies on the Cross Country.
- Jodhpurs (light coloured), Long Sleeves and a Collar: These wont save you from a broken arm, but if you do come off you wont have cuts and grazes to deal with also. Adding a Collar and Tie to the official Roydvale top will give your neck extra support/protection in the event of a fall. For youth, a simple white shirt from farmers/warehouse for $10-20 under the brown tops is ideal and means you have your teams competition ready to go.
- Riding Boots - Sorry, no gumboots or anything with tread or anything without 20mm clearance when the foot is moved to one side of the stirrup.
- Correct Saddlery, Correctly Fitted: It doesn't need to be new, matching or beautiful. It just needs to be functional, safe and used correctly. Look every time you ride for any worn out areas.
When we talk to you about your gear, turnout or uniform at Roydvale - as above, our #1 priority is safety for riders and their horses; but we also want to educate you and your rider as to what is needed, why, when and so on.
Second Hand Uniforms and Team Supplies - Roydvale tries to stock a supply of Youth brown competition tops, riders change sizes and in/out of pony club regularly, so let us know what you need. We also have a supply of ties/hat covers/browbands/saddle blankets/rugs/jackets for when you represent Roydvale in a Roydvale or composite Roydvale team.
